So, hey, random question. From the above, I was going to make it that they aren't totally isolated from the outside world and see this village or something. Do you think that would work?

(Wow nobodie's posted here in a while...)
Also, @ember Myst, I think having them 100% isolated probably isn't the best idea, maybe they scarcely get news from other places?
And on a unrelated topic: random excert! From chapter 2!
"Ada...your...brother died, didn't he?"
"When I was seven, yes." The ginger stared at her, making Destiny slightly uncomfortable. "But that was ten years ago."
"Do you still remember it?"
"No." Ada lied, she remembered every last detail, it was her brother - how could she forget? She was there - after all. But these weren't things Destiny needed to know, for the moment anyway.
"Oh..." They sat in silence. Destiny could tell that Ada wasn't being honest, but decided not to press it. Rain could still be hear outside, and though they did not know of the other, the two were thinking the exact same thing.
Right now, they had no differences.

Seeing as this is a thread for writing I may as well ask for advice on here.
Basically I have an idea for a story but I want to plan it properly. Most times I do small plans and I end up putting too little or too much in chapters, my characters have no depth and after the first 3 chapters my story is bland.
The thing is I don't know where to start. Do I plan characters first or the plot? Do I try and start off by deciding what themes I want in my story or do I concentrate on that later? I understand that people have different ideas, some people work better by knowing the plot first and characters come later while others like to plan out the characters first because they can then mould the plot to work with the character's traits and personality while others prefer to start off with the bigger picture then get into the details.
But I genuinely don't know where to begin. So if any of you could give me an idea of where's a good place to start, I would be grateful. Thanks.

Some of the best stories I know start off with the plot and then slowly adds the background within it. I personally have an easier time determining the character first before I write. When I'm writing, I'll build up the exposition and a little bit about the characters (not too much at a time though.) So what I guess I'm trying to say is go with the plot first and then slowly add the character's background where applicable. I know it's not much but I just know how to do this from reading so many books. The more books you read, the better you'll be at writing.

Can someone help me with this problem? Anyway, in another story that I am writing, I have three characters who are travelling a fairly long distance, but enough to be covered in approximately three quarters of a day including breaks. But how should I describe it? I mean, I don't want to describe every bit, but the rest of it is rather detailed, so should I sort of just describe feelings at certain places where there's some sort of special thing or feeling that my main character is having? What do you think?

I guess you should do the certain places. Maybe describe like the walking and stuff at first but after that concentrate on more the emotions and thoughts of your characters?

What do you think? I think I've read a book with a lot of traveling like what you are describing... You could describe the beginning a little bit first and then once the reader gets that they are traveling at a steady pace, then you should describe some key events that could be important. (Anything that twists the plot, drops a hint about the characters, anything that could "change" the character, etc.)

This is more of a do you think this is a good idea but basically I have this idea where a bunch of people annoy someone who turns out to be a witch/wizard and casts a spell which makes them having animal characteristics but instead of the usual Tiger and Snake and stuff it'll be more animals that are quite normal in the every day world but not in the fantasy world??? so like bees, ants, aardvarks etc. they'll all have a special power I guess but also a fatal flaw. For example the bee can sting people and because they stay humanoid and don't transform or anything the sting he/she gives will be a lot greater but they can only sting 3 times and then they die. (I was considering one but I thought that is slightly harsh). So yeah I was just wondering is there anything I could add or improve?

So you mean that they will discover their powers, or do they know they have been transformed straight away?

They'll slowly discover it themselves. At first they just think the woman (witch) tricked them using like technology or anything but slowly they discover that actually they have powers.
